Sanford wasn’t always the grinning goofball he is today. In fact, his past was filled with pain and neglect. But thanks to the kindness of strangers and a loving foster home, this resilient dog has found his smile again.
A rough start of this poor dog
Sanford’s life took a terrible turn when he was hit by a car, leaving him immobile. Rescued by animal control, they discovered a bullet wound on his right hind leg, adding another layer of cruelty to his story. He ended up in a small, overcrowded shelter in Dallas, Texas. With limited resources, the shelter couldn’t provide him with the medical care he desperately needed.
A spark of hope is coming
One day, a volunteer from Dallas DogRRR spotted Sanford. His condition was heartbreaking – he seemed to have given up, withdrawn and unresponsive. But the volunteer saw a spark in his eyes, a flicker of hope that couldn’t be ignored. They knew they had to help.
Finding his forever smile
The turning point came when Sanford entered foster care with Karen Velazquez. “He came to my house on May 1st,” Velazquez recalls. “Only a few days after leaving the hospital, he started beaming.” It seems Sanford knew he was finally safe. In his new home, he’s showered with love and attention, enjoying delicious home-cooked meals, daily walks, and playtime with other dogs.
A happy companion awaits
Despite his ten years, Sanford is full of life. “He’s a fairly average dog for a 10-year-old,” says Kerry Anechiarico, executive director of Dallas DogRRR. “He reminds me of a senior citizen living in a nursing home, but instead of being 95, he acts like he’s in his fifties!”
While Sanford thrives in foster care, the ultimate goal is to find him a forever home. “He’ll make a great family dog,” Anechiarico emphasizes. “He’s good with kids and gets along with other dogs and people.” Sanford embodies the perfect companion – a dog who will greet you with a wagging tail, ready to share his infectious joy for the rest of the day.
Sanford’s story is a testament to the power of resilience and the transformative impact of love. With a little help, even the most broken dog can rediscover his smile. Could you be the one to give Sanford his forever happy ending?
