Today was Kin’s birthday, but it felt just like any other day. There were no decorations, no excited voices, and no special treats waiting for him. Kin, a small, scruffy dog with a kind heart, sat quietly by the window, watching the outside world go by. He was used to seeing other dogs get celebrated, their owners throwing parties with colorful balloons and treats. But for Kin, today was lonely.
“My birthday feels no different from any other day,” Kin thought to himself. He had hoped that maybe, just maybe, someone would remember. But as the hours passed, the house remained silent. The usual routine carried on, and no one seemed to notice that this day was supposed to be special. His tail wagged slightly every time the door opened, hoping it was for him. But each time, the door closed, and no one mentioned his birthday.
The soft pitter-patter of rain began to fall outside, mirroring the way Kin felt inside. He curled up in his bed, his fur slightly damp from pressing against the window. “The birthday wishes have been forgotten,” he thought sadly. Kin wasn’t a dog that expected grand gestures, but a small acknowledgment would have made him feel loved.
As the evening approached, Kin’s owner finally noticed him lying there, looking downcast. “Kin, what’s the matter, buddy?” his owner asked, kneeling beside him. There was no response from Kin except for his big, soulful eyes that seemed to say everything. His owner suddenly realized what day it was. “Oh no, Kin, I’m so sorry! How could I forget your birthday?”
Feeling guilty, his owner rushed to the kitchen and returned with Kin’s favorite snack. Though it wasn’t the grand birthday celebration Kin had hoped for, the small gesture warmed his heart. His tail began to wag, slowly at first, but soon it swayed with joy. “Happy birthday, Kin,” his owner whispered, scratching behind his ears.
Kin’s birthday may not have started off special, but as he lay in his owner’s lap, feeling the warmth and love, he realized that sometimes the simplest gestures meant the most. Even though his birthday wishes were almost forgotten, he knew deep down that he was loved. And that was all he really needed.
