Firefighters arrived at the scene to find a building engulfed in smoke and flames. During their search, firefighter Andrew Klein discovered Nalu in a critical state. “I found him in the heat and smoke,” Klein recounted to KABC. “I reached out and discovered he wasn’t breathing.”

Unwilling to give up, Klein immediately administered CPR on the tiny pup, a technique known as “mouth-to-snout” resuscitation. The critical moments stretched on for nearly 20 minutes before a miracle occurred. Nalu’s chest began to rise and fall independently – he was breathing again! Revitalized, Nalu regained consciousness and started to move around.

Klein’s dedication and quick thinking undoubtedly saved Nalu’s life. “That was pretty amazing,” he shared with KTLA. “I’ve been on a number of animal rescues that didn’t turn out the way Nalu’s story did.” This successful rescue brought a wave of relief and joy to the entire fire department team.

A new beginning for Nalu and his owner

While Nalu’s survival was a cause for celebration, the fire had taken a toll on his owner, Crystal Lamirande. Sadly, the blaze had ravaged her apartment, leaving her with nothing but the clothes on her back. Despite this loss, Lamirande expressed gratitude to the fire department for saving her beloved pet. This ordeal, however, fostered an unexpected bond between Lamirande and her local heroes.

The fire itself was contained within ten minutes by the fire department, preventing any human injuries. However, the story of Nalu’s rescue stands out as a testament to the unwavering dedication of firefighters who go above and beyond the call of duty, not just for human lives, but for the furry members of our communities as well.
