From abandoned pup to hopeful beginnings

Tipsy’s life started with a challenge. Abandoned as a newborn, she was found helpless and weak by a rescue squad. Despite this difficult start, the rescue team’s dedication nurtured Tipsy back to health. At just two weeks old, she took her first wobbly steps, seemingly a picture of perfect health. Little did they know, a hidden obstacle lay ahead.

Facing a hidden challenge

At three weeks old, Tipsy’s mobility began to decline. While initially attributed to her early weaning, the reality was far more serious. She struggled to move, dragging her back legs. While they still had some sensation, their movement became limited. This alarming change prompted a visit to a neurologist, where a diagnosis revealed a birth defect – a spinal fracture or luxation. X-rays showed a loss of bone density in her T-spine area, a clear sign of a congenital condition. The cause remained a mystery, as she never displayed any signs of pain or trauma. According to the doctor, this deformity likely developed during her growth without causing her distress.

Determination fuels recovery

Despite the setback, Tipsy wouldn’t be deterred. With the help of physical therapy and passive range-of-motion exercises, she began to show improvement. Her foster parent marveled at her determination, a characteristic shining through even at a young age. At just seven weeks old, she was already undergoing therapy and demonstrating a willingness to work and play, albeit with limitations.

Adapting and embracing life

Acupuncture sessions offered some relief, and at nine weeks old, Tipsy received a wheelchair to increase her mobility. While initially hesitant, practice helped her grow accustomed to it. By sixteen weeks, she was confidently navigating the park alongside other dogs, her wheelchair becoming an extension of her playful spirit.

Today, at twenty weeks old, Tipsy remains the embodiment of joy and resilience. Her story is a testament to the power of early intervention, dedicated care, and an unwavering spirit. Tipsy’s journey is far from over, but she has already accomplished so much, proving that even the most challenging beginnings can’t extinguish the spark of life and the will to play.
